2005 shipments show AMR growth is again on the rise
ATLANTA – June 26, 2006 – The ever-evolving automated meter reading (AMR) marketplace for electric-focused vendors grew by nearly 25% in 2005 among the industry’s top vendors, after a slight downturn in 2004, according to those shipments numbers recently provided to Chartwell. Those numbers and other analysis are published in Chartwell’s most recent report, AMR Shipments 2006, 4th Edition.
There are many reasons for this surge, but the simple answer is that after years of wait-and-see, many large utilities are now more confident about investing large sums of money into AMR projects. Clearly, like a slow-moving domino effect, the viability of AMR is proven every time a large utility company rolls out with the technology. Add to that new dialogue on the benefits of advanced metering between utility companies and state regulatory commissions, partially driven by the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
A significant piece of overall AMR growth is the escalation of fixed networks and two-way systems. For example, in 2005, two of the top three fixed network, two-way providers – Cellnet and Hunt Technologies - showed marked growth.
Other leading vendors are also analyzed in this report, including Itron, DCSI-TWACS, Hexagram and Neptune.
