New Chartwell Best Practice Award to recognize excellence in outage communications at 2008 Summit

ATLANTA -- Aug. 12, 2008 -- A new Chartwell award will recognize utilities' achievements in providing customers with better information during power outages.
 
The Chartwell Best Practices Award for Outage Communications will honor results-oriented initiatives aimed at improving customer contact and information delivery during outages, both planned and unplanned.
 
When the lights go out, utility customers want outage information that is accurate, detailed and updated frequently. Commercial and residential customers especially need to know when the power will be restored, as prolonged outages can impact business or lifestyles. Progressive utilities continually have developed strategies and programs to deliver this critical information as quickly as possible. Increasingly, the information and its delivery have been tailored to reflect customers' preferences.
 
Recognizing excellence among electric and/or gas utilities in outage communications, the new Chartwell Best Practices Award is open to entrants of any size electric, gas or combination investor-owned, government-owned or cooperative utility in North America. Vendors and consultants aiding utilities in outage communications endeavors also may enter specific utility programs with
permission from the utility involved.
 
The award winner will be announced at Chartwell's Best Practices Summit on Outage Communications, scheduled for Nov. 13-14 in Orlando, Fla., and will be featured in Chartwell's Best Practices for Utilities & Energy Companies newsletter.

Outage communications programs entered in previous 2008 Chartwell customer service awards will be considered automatically for this new award.
