Chatham-Kent wins Chartwell Award for Advanced Metering
NAPA, Calif. – The 2007 Chartwell Best Practices Award for Metering was presented during Chartwell’s annual Advanced Metering Summit to Chatham-Kent Energy, Chatham, Ontario, for its innovative metering program.
The award, presented on April 19, honors the most innovative utility advanced metering project, based on innovation, depth of business case and achieved goals, among entrants to the contest. Several utilities from across North America applied for consideration.
A panel of Chartwell researchers chose Chatham-Kent Energy’s Smart Metering Program as the award winner for its innovation, execution and results. Chatham-Kent Energy recently installed Tantalus’ two-way Advanced Metering Infrastructure at a fraction of the originally estimated cost, integrated it with a meter data management system, and used the technology as a vehicle for time-of-use billing and other utility services.
“Advanced metering has truly come of age,” said Dennis Smith, vice president of research and information delivery, Chartwell Inc. “It is good to see utilities such as Chatham-Kent deploying smart metering technology and data management systems to enhance their operations and provide customers with options concerning their energy usage.”
“Chatham-Kent Energy is very pleased and honored to be recognized by such a prestigious organization as Chartwell Inc.,” said Jim Hogan, chief financial officer, Chatham-Kent Energy, who was present to accept the award. Hogan attributes the success of Chatham-Kent Energy’s smart meter program to the hard working and dedicated staff.
A full case study of Chatham-Kent Energy’s Smart Metering Program was published in a recent issue of Chartwell’s Best Practices for Utilities & Energy Companies newsletter, and will be published in other Chartwell publications.
