Green energy participation rates on the rise
Green energy participation rates on the rise
ATLANTA – New Chartwell research reveals some good news for utilities around fee-based green power programs: More customers are participating than ever before.
In 2005 and 2006, the average residential customer participation rate in premium renewable energy programs was about 1%. In 2007, that has risen to almost 2%, according to Chartwell’s recent Residential Products, Services & Programs Data Summary & Report 2007, based on phone or online surveys with 88 North American utilities.
Other survey findings reveal that the days long hoped for where customers would purchase energy efficient appliances without rebates are not yet here. More utilities than ever offer energy efficiency rebates, and more customers take advantage of those rebates. Investor-owned utilities – the least likely to offer rebates in 2004 – are most likely to offer rebates in 2007. Chartwell’s Residential Products, Services & Programs Data Summary & Report 2007 offers year-to-year comparisons and breaks data down by utility size and type. Chartwell has conducted utility surveys regarding products and services since 1997.
In addition to discussing rates at which utilities offer, are planning to offer or have discontinued 16 products/services, Residential Products, Services & Programs Data Summary & Report 2007 examines customer participation, prices and other issues surrounding products like green energy, online bill analysis tools, maintenance agreements, and broadband over power lines.
The report includes data analysis and raw survey results from each of the 88 respondents. Also available is a fully sortable Excel spreadsheet including all survey responses.
Residential Products & Services Data Summary & Report 2007 and the accompanying Excel spreadsheet is available to members of Chartwell’s Products, Services and Programs Research Series. Membership also includes a data summary and report outlining the findings of Chartwell’s utility survey regarding products, services and programs for commercial and industrial customers, as well as regularly released reports on issues such as sales of or rebates on green energy technologies, utility marketing and product development efforts.
