Chartwell Award to recognize excellence in outage communications at 2010 Summit
ATLANTA – Aug. 2, 2010 – Chartwell will recognize utilities’ achievements in providing customers with better information during power outages with its third annual Best Practices Award for Outage Communications.
The award honors results-oriented initiatives aimed at improving customer contact and information delivery during outages, both planned and unplanned.
The award is open to entrants of any size electric, gas or combination investor-owned, government-owned or cooperative utility in North America. Vendors and consultants aiding utilities in outage communications endeavors also may enter specific utility programs with permission from the utility involved.
Vancouver-based BC Hydro won the inaugural 2008 award for its multi-faceted “Outage Communications Initiative,” launched in response to major outages that affected an estimated 800,000 customers during the 2006-07 winter storm season.
Public Service of New Hampshire received the 2009 award for its pioneering use of social media in outage communications.
The 2010 award winner will be announced at The Chartwell Outage Communications Summit, scheduled for Nov. 18-19 in Nashville, Tenn., and will be featured in Chartwell’s Best Practices for Utilities & Energy Companies newsletter.
